NSCHS students have opportunities to join a variety of
competitive Math and Science teams and participate in
extracurricular Math and Science events. Math Team - Team based activity where students compete in math competitions against other high schools. Competitions are typically on Saturdays, with some during the week. Anyone is welcome to participate. There is a Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. Practices are held Wednesdays after school, 3:30-5:00 PM. Contact: Dr. Burke
Mu Alpha Theta
(Math Honor Society) - Qualifications: · Overall GPA in core subjects of 82 or better · Average of 85 or better (honors pts not included) in all high school math classes · Completion of 2 honor's level classes · Current enrollment in math class beyond Algebra 2 · Willingness to perform service geared toward increasing match knowledge and interest at NSCHS · An absence of serious disciplinary violations Contact: Mr. Hetherington As there is a fee for all competitions, students will be asked to pay club dues of $25 to cover most of the competitions plus a t-shirt. Additional fees will be added if a team must travel outside of the Atlanta area. Please make checks payable to North Springs Charter and return them to Mrs. Lawrimore in room F012. T-Shirt Design Contest! Club fees will be waived for the person who develops a logo, slogan or design for the science club. Entries are due to Mrs. Lawrimore by October 15, 2009. Science Club Registration Form Science Bowl – Practices start in August with competitions in October, January and February. Two teams will compete in tournaments answering questions on a variety of scientific subjects. NSCHS has fielded strong teams in the past and a strong group of underclassmen show promise for great results this year. Contact: Mr. Fowler Science Olympiad - Bring science to life, show how science works, and emphasize problem solving aspects of science and the understanding of science concepts. Accomplish this by building something that flies, starts and stops uses electronics or whatever your imagination can conceive. Practices start in the fall with the competition in February.
